Staying Positive in a Changing Economy

We’re living in a whole new social and economic landscape these days. Many of our expectations about life and what our society has to offer us were upended when our economy was rocked by the stocked market crash of 2008 and the long and wearying recession that followed it.

Is it over? Are we there yet? Is the recovery really on its way? It depends on who you ask. Corporate earnings are up, yet the news reports of ongoing unemployment are daunting.  We’re living in a time of change and transformation in our society and it’s having a major impact on careers and how we live our lives.

How can we deal effectively with the kind of unprecedented changes we are now being asked—forced—to deal with? Staying positive and healthy in the face of daunting economic news is one of the biggest challenges facing many of us today. In the midst of a major economic downturn, however, it’s critical that we remain positive and strong, in order to deal with the many changes coming our way.

How do we stay strong? Practice gratitude. In the book, ‘The Prosperity Plan,’ author and self-help coach Laura Fortgang advises anyone struggling with financial issues to practice a meditation of gratitude. Fortgang advises waking up every morning and making a list of at least three things to be grateful for in our lives—no matter what. This simple practice can be life changing, as looking at the events in our lives from a positive standpoint of gratitude can transform our attitudes and feelings about what is happening. This action in itself can manifest change in our lives, our health and our careers.

Turn Back the Clock

Wouldn’t it be great if we could find some fountain of youth to reverse the aging process? Since the beginning of time, people have been looking for some way to live longer and feel better. Believe it or not, the secret may have been right at our fingertips the whole time.

Research shows one of the most important things that you can do to extend your life expectancy is physical activity. There is no substitute for exercise and keeping your body and mind engaged. The United States Department of Health recommends at least 150 minutes of aerobic activity per week. This could be walking or jogging, working out in a gym or just working in the garden. Only your imagination will limit how you get your exercise.

The experts at meijicollege.org say the health benefits of exercise are numerous:

  • stronger heart and lungs
  • increased blood circulation throughout the body
  • improved mood
  • keeps weight off
  • boosts energy levels.

Physical activity alone will not guarantee that you beat the average life expectancy of Americans which is now 78 years old, but it is a good start. A healthy diet that is low in fat and high in fruits and vegetables is an important component as well. As you age, you should also consider natural supplements that have been shown to help counter the effects of aging. Glucosamine Sulfate will help with joint pain and arthritis. Anti-oxidants will help prevent cancer and sustain organ function. Green tea extract and grape seed extract are excellent sources of anti-oxidants which will help you take on Father Time.

How To Eat Healthy

Changing your health isn’t always an easy thing to do. Plenty of people out there are stuck in their ways and when they hear about the concept of eating healthy they are put off by the idea that they are going to be stuck with a diet that tastes terrible but benefits their long term health. This isn’t the case at all. Eating healthy foods isn’t about some sort of plan to torture yourself, but rather it’s a plan about just making better overall decisions.

The initial step isn’t to eliminate foods but rather get more of the right foods into your diet as well. That means that you should be getting more fruits and vegetables into your diet. It doesn’t mean that you have to get a whole string of things you hate eating. Just more of what you do love to eat and then everything should work out fine.

Another thing to consider is that you have to be very smart about the things you bring in and to eat them in lesser portions. There is nothing wrong with eating decadent chocolate but there is something wrong about eating it in mass quantities. You have to be better and smarter than that.

Of course one of the things that makes the most sense to you and your health is the use of supplementation and its benefits on your life. You don’t get all you need from the foods you eat now, so incorporate more multivitamins in and you will be fine.

Acupuncture on Animals

Acupuncture on Animals

We are already aware of the fact that you can use acupuncture treatments in human patients, as this is a popular form of alternative medicine. But let us explore acupuncture as it is performed on animals. Over three thousand years ago in India, there were old veterinarian records of acupuncture being preformed. The first treatments were done on elephants. In today’s world, performing acupuncture on animals is a normal treatment. In fact, veterinary students will find that some of their current text books have plenty of acupuncture information. Before deciding upon acupuncture care for your animal it is wise to talk with other veterinarians for a second opinion if you deem it necessary.

Acupuncture is used to treat animals can reduce pain making them feel better. Since they can not talk to tell you the problem the acupuncturist must be a bit of a detective. Dog owners have a bond and tend to understand their dogs. They know when the dog isn’t feeling good or if the dog is depressed or in pain. Once the problem is known then the treatment can begin. Most dogs will be calm when receiving the treatments and may be calm enough to sleep during that time. Like a human patient, animals will get a treatment plan and may have to visit the acupuncturist several times each week.

When the dog has gone through a few weeks worth of treatments, it will be time to determine how much the dog has improved. Continue the visits until the dog has improved significantly. Acupuncture can be used on exotic birds, lizards and cats as well as unusual animals such as sugar gliders and ferrets. It is important to find a veterinarian who has been an acupuncturist for many years and has a few years of experienced under their belt. If you have tried everything up to this point trying to make your pet well consider this alternative.
